Welcome and Thank you!

Thank you for checking out our original website for Mosaic The City – Community Unity Society.

We are 9 years old now and so is this site and for that reason we have moved to a more interactive , current, community on Facebook.

In just under nine years, we have build more than 30 projects across the CRD and included more than 5000 people. Very proud and excited to see what will be next.

Come and check out all we do and have been doing for the past five years, and keep your eyes peeled as we plan something super for our 10 year anniversary in 2013!

We are planning to build a whole new site – soon- if you know anyone who would love to work with a growing NFP, please give them our info.

In Community Unity,
Shylene & the Team.

For more information on this project see the project journal.

On August 28th at Fernfest, Mosaic the City enjoyed theri first Community Unity March. Together with over 30 people The Flying Accuasations pipered the crowd to the mosaic mural on the 2400block of Chambers Street.

The third project for MtC led by Shylene, a resident of Fernwood for the last six years, and in partnerships with the Fernwood Community Centre, the Fernwood Community Association and the Cox family.

This quick summer project created a number of mosaics placed in various spaces around Fernwood.. how many can you find?????

As the first phase of Mosaic Fernwood we are working to create not only community designed & built mosaics, but also lasting community spirit.

Phase II is UP to YOU..

If you are interested in the idea of Community Unity and want to play a big role in making your community safer, friendlier and more artistic, JOIN THE TEAM. For Phase II to happen in Fernwood there needs to be a team dedicated to making it happen.

#2 Central Middle School's Community Unity Project - Winter/Spring 2004

This was the second project for MtC, in partnership with School district 61, Grace Lutheran Church, Local 730 of the International Association of Firefighters, and Artisan Tile.

This 12-week project invited the people of Fernwood to think about "What community means to you." Within this theme the group found a way to mix the history of the area with the current landscape to create an amazing twelve-foot mosaic which is now ground laid in the Fort Street entrance of the School.

Over one hundred people worked on the mosaic and more then thirty businesses and organization lent their support to the project. Another great success for Mosaic the City.

For more information on this project- see the project journal.

# 1 Mosaic the Market - Spring/Summer 2003

The first Mosaic the City project was in partnership with Market Square, Out of Hand Gallery, Lulu-lemon and Shylene.com.

This summer long project, invited the community to design around the themes " Use what you have & what does Victoria Mean to you?" About one hundred hand drawn designs were submitted to the project with aprox 30% were then used in the five mosaics that are now permanently mounted in the square.

With participation of over 300 people from more the 15 nations, 12 different island communities, five provinces, and seven of the US states, this first project was a great success and a great stepping stone on which to start Mosaic the City- Victoria.

For more information on this project- see the project journal.
